Transition Year

Transition Year is designed as a ‘stepping stone’ from the Junior Cycle to the more academic demands of the Senior Cycle. Students who have completed the Junior Certificate are strongly advised to undertake this programme which has been greatly enhanced over the years. It encourages an awareness of the world of work and contributes to the growth of self confidence and personality through a wide range of academic, cultural, aesthetic, sporting and leisure activities. As part of Transition Year Programme students have an opportunity to go on an educational tour abroad.

Students also have a fantastic opportunity to gain work experience placements during this time. Some of the work experience opportunities our students have been involved are: ‘Looking into Law’ The Bar of Ireland programme, St. Vincents Hospital ‘So You Want to Be a Doctor’ programme, Nursing Homes, Car Mechanics, Dublin Fire Services, Ultrasound Dimensions, in Local Primary Schools, Carpentry, Accounting, Childcare and many more.
